Dr. Gabriel Fabreau is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary and co-director of Refugee Health YYC, a research, education, and innovation platform at the O’Brien Institute for Public Health dedicated to improving healthcare for resettled refugees and asylum seekers in Canada. Clinically, Dr. Fabreau serves as a specialist at the Mosaic Refugee Health Clinic and as an academic inpatient physician at the Peter Lougheed Centre. He completed his Internal Medicine training in Calgary, an academic fellowship in General Internal Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a Master of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His research focuses on health services and public health, particularly the health of refugees, migrants, and socially vulnerable populations. Since 2023, he has served as a technical expert for the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his service to Alberta during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2023.
